InsuranceWe act for a number of prominent NZ insurers with a particular focus on liability insurance.
Dispute ResolutionWe have a wealth of experience in civil commercial litigation and regularly appear in all Courts.
Health/Medical Legal LawThe ACC regime significantly limits the extent of litigation or claims (law) arising out of health issues in New Zealand. But there has been a corresponding increase in complaints.
Family / Personal PropertyFamily and personal property law has become increasingly complex. It requires an understanding of property, trust and relationship property law.
Jane Forrest - Partner
Jane is a passionate advocate for her clients, whether in the Court room or otherwise.
As an Insurance lawyer Jane has strength in policy coverage and interpretation issues, professional indemnity and health/medico-legal issues. She regularly represents people going through complaint processes or facing claims for compensation in the Courts. Jane is also experienced in the Life and Disability field.
Jane’s diverse litigation practice includes expertise in the law relating to personal relationships and she is experienced in untangling the issues that arise following separation including:
- Property and Trusts
- Care of children
Jane is also a passionate sports supporter, supporting Wellington Phoenix, Barcelona, a few too many teams who play in light blue (it’s true), and any team her son Will is in. She is also a big supporter of Wellington cafés.

Alistair Darroch - Partner
Alistair’s strength is in the strategy he brings to dispute resolution. He has a determination (some could say stubbornness) which is balanced with his ability to enjoy the people he works with – whether they be clients, colleagues and adversaries.
Alistair has spent 12 years as a Partner in a national practice. He can be found as Counsel in many reported cases. In addition many of his best results have been achieved outside of the Courtroom – in mediations and negotiations which have achieved great outcomes for his clients.
Alistair has expertise in civil litigation, including all aspects of alternative dispute resolution. His specific areas include:
- Complaints and claims against professionals
- Statutory Liability (and in particular health and safety) prosecutions
- Commercial litigation
When not in the office or a Courtroom, Alistair can usually be found in a café or on a sports field (usually, though not always, as a spectator). While his defence skills on the football field do not match his defence skills at work, he can be a relatively reliable defender.

Ellie has appeared in a range of jurisdictions from Tribunal level to the Court of Appeal – and through this work has a sound understanding of the complex statutory and regulatory framework of the criminal and ACC legislation.
Ellie has returned to private practice after a period in-house with the Medical Council where she developed her interest and specialisation in medico-legal issues including competency and disciplinary processes.
She has recently relocated back to the Hutt and is enjoying the train journey. Ellie also enjoys mountain biking (although not very well), playing indoor football (even less well), and making the most of Wellington’s excellent array of eateries (at which she is expert).
Sophie Meaclem - Office Manager
Sophie is our office manager. She looks forward to the challenges and variety of all that is required to keep us going. This is straightforward compared to her busy life at home organising her wonderful 3 young children and husband. She can do most anything and is an essential part of our business.
Reuben Davidson - Law Clerk

Clara Curtis - Law Clerk
Clara studied law at Victoria University. She was initially drawn to law as a practical means by which to help people resolve their issues. She worked with DarrochForrest while completing her LLB and is now working full-time.
Outside of work she enjoys reading and spending time with her pets and family. She runs, but for fitness rather than for pleasure.
